House of Representatives Number of representatives is set at 435 members A state can increase membership only if another state decreases membership This apportionment (distribution of members) is done every ten years after the census is taken the government uses a formula to establish how this is done, if membership is still done by the ratio of 1 to 30,000 people, the house of representatives would have 10,000 members!
Requirements to be a house member? Age 25 yrs old Citizenship U.S. citizen for 7 or more yrs. Residency Must live in the state of which you wish to represent Term Two year (unlimited)
Requirements to be a member of the Senate? Age 30 yrs old Citizenship U.S. citizen for 9 or more years Residency Must live in the state of which you wish to represent Term Six year term (unlimited)
