Coming to America Your History

This project is in two parts Report = 50 points Presentation = 50 points

Report = 50 points The U.S. is a nation of immigrants Your project is about your familial roots It is to include the country you and/or your family (ancestors) came from Their struggles Stories about their trip to the U.S. If your family comes from more than one country pick one or two

Report = 50 points Your report is based on your family’s experiences in the US What country did you and/or your family come from Tell me a little about the country’s geography, climate, and physical features. Include any civil strife and turmoil it has faced or is facing.

Report = 50 points What are some of the customs, traditions and celebrations of your former country? Which traditions/customs/celebrations do you and your family observe?

Report = 50 points Explain the types of food or traditional dishes your former country? What is your favorite dish? Include a recipe and/or a story behind the dish.

Report = 50 points Any family struggles to get here? Did your father arrive first then bring your family? Historical persecution, fleeing civil strife, etc.

Report = 50 points Once you arrived in the US how did your family survive? Did they have a rough job, did they live with relatives for a while, etc. How do you feel about their immigration to the US and what they went through? You can include story of an ancestor.

Report = 50 points Any success stories in your family? Will you be the first to go to college? You may include anything you feel is a success story. YOU SHOULD INTERVIEW YOUR PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, OTHER RELATIVES, GUARDIANS, YOU CAN LOOK UP YOUR FAMILY CREST AND/OR RESEARCH YOUR LAST NAME.

Report = 50 points Specifics AT LEAST 2 pages long Typed 12 point font Double spaced MLA format

Presentation = 50 points You will present orally to the class…preferably in groups. You must pick four things from your report to share This will be a “MULTICULTURAL GATHERING” with food (e.c.) arts, crafts, heirlooms, dress, music, videos and any other artifacts, pictures, etc. you would like to share.
