World Language Mission Welcome to Sra. Weber's Open House Why is learning a World Language so important? To foster and inspire in our students a love of World Languages, people and cultures. For our students to appreciate, respect and understand cultural differences. To provide the necessary communication & written tools for our students to compete in our modern global society.

Sra. Weber We believe that all interested students should be offered the opportunity to study a World Language. To insure this opportunity, we offer language studies for various levels of ability and accomplishment. Our modern language program, which uses a proficiency based, communicative approach is geared to students who may further their language study for personal or professional enrichment. Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are stressed with reading, writing and speaking assuming greater importance in the advanced levels.   We recognize the increasing mobility of our global society. Therefore, the territory and culture of the target language are often discussed and studied. We believe that the study of both language and culture prepares students better to understand and thrive in our global society. It offers alternative ideas and experiences with which to judge the quality of their own lives.

Why Study Spanish? The 5 C’s Cultures Communications Connections Comparisons Communities

Course Description: Grade 9: This course is designed to focus on what and how the student is learning. The instructional decisions are based on three purposes: interpersonal, interpretive and presentational within a cultural context. Our programs use real world photos, on-location videos, animated grammar and solid pedagogy – it is an exciting, motivational and effective approach that will appeal to all types of learners and keep them coming back for more! Grading Breakdown: 25% for quizzes and they get one or two per week totaling 10 per marking period. 25% for participation which includes daily work and homework. 50% for test or projects which they usually get 2 per marking period. Students must have a binder and all supplies with them everyday. If they don’t have their binders they will be unprepared for class. Please visit Real-time portal weekly on the www.OldBridgeSchools.org website to see your child’s progress and upcoming assignments and test. My teacher’s site is also on this page with valuable resources.

World Language Standards All students will be able to use a world language in addition to English to engage in meaningful conversation, to understand and interpret spoken and written language, and to present information, concepts, and ideas, while also gaining an understanding of the perspectives of other cultures. Through language study, they will make connections with other content areas, compare the language and culture studied with their own, and participate in home and global communities. World Language Education in the 21st Century New Jersey citizens are part of a dynamic, interconnected, and technologically driven global society centered on the creation and communication of knowledge and ideas across geographical, cultural, and linguistic borders. Individuals who effectively communicate in more than one language, with an appropriate understanding of cultural contexts, are globally literate and possess the attributes reflected in the mission and vision for world languages education that follow: Mission: The study of another language and culture enables individuals, whether functioning as citizens or workers, to communicate face-to-face and by virtual means in appropriate ways with people from diverse cultures. Vision: An education in world languages fosters a population that: Communicates in more than one language with the levels of language proficiency that are required to function in a variety of occupations and careers in the contemporary workplace. Exhibits attitudes, values, and skills that indicate a positive disposition and understanding of cultural differences and that enhance cross-cultural communication. Values language learning as a global literacy as well as for its long-term worth in fostering personal, work-related, and/or financial success in our increasingly interconnected world.

“Always desire to learn something useful.“ Sophocles Thank you for taking an interest in your child’s education and for understanding the value of a second language. We appreciate your time, concern , interest and dedication. We look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher Conferences. Enjoy the rest of your night!!!
