Hoax Red Flag #1 “Send it to everyone you know” If it were a real story, you would probably send it only want those who know you.
Hoax Red Flag #2 Technical sounding language "...if the program is not stopped, the computer's processor will be placed in an nth-complexity infinite binary loop which can severely damage the processor..." Using words that lead you to believe the sender knows what they are talking about.
Hoax Red Flag #3 Credibility by Association If the janitor at a large technological organization sends a warning to someone outside of that organization, people on the outside tend to believe the warning because the company should know about those things and the janitor may know better than you do.
Hoax Red Flag #4 Spelling or Grammatical Errors This is especially true if the “sender” is representing a large company. They pay people to make sure there are no grammatical or spelling errors

Netiquette Customs or guidelines for maintaining civilized communication
Guidelines for Good E-mail Don’t type everything in all capital letters.
+ Be concise so your messages will be read and not just discarded. Short-N-Sweet Be concise so your messages will be read and not just discarded. +
Break it Up! Use short paragraphs for easier reading on a monitor.
Leave a blank line between paragraphs for easier reading on a monitor. See…doesn’t that make it easier to read. Compare it to this and that and everything all bunched together and small and it is just too much work to read so I am going to quit now because it makes me tired and I really don’t care what it says or means or anything
Sound Smart! Proofread and spell-check your e-mail before sending.
Let Them Know… Provide a meaningful subject line that introduces your message.
Chill a While… Don’t send messages out of anger because you can’t retract the message once it is sent.
