Figure 1 Two Major Nociceptor Classes The diagram shows peripheral and central target fields, trophic factor dependence, and biochemical properties of the two major classes of cutaneous nociceptors. The CGRP/TrkA population represents roughly 40% of DRG neurons in rodents, whereas the IB4 population represents roughly 30%. Both populations of nociceptors are sensitive to capsaicin; these presumably express either VR1 or another member of the VR1 family.
