Starting our Activity

Definition: motion pressure It is a power derived from motion + pressure of a particular liquid such as water or oil It is transmitted to a motor that converts it into a mechanical output

Location Litani power plant AwaliJoun Abed Al Safa power plant Al Bared power plant Al Bared 1 Al Bared 2 Location of the hydraulic power plants in Lebanon

How does it work? The pump uses a large amount of water to pump a small one uphill Once the water reaches its maximum speed, this valve slams shut The flowing water develops a pressure in the pump The pressure forces open a second valve. Water flows through it to the delivery pipe Pressure in the pump falls. The first one reopens to let water flow The second one closes, the cycle repeats

Advantages: Good for the environment Good for the environment Dont produce or create pollution directly Dont produce or create pollution directly Doesn't use up much energy Doesn't use up much energy Dont require any fuel Dont require any fuel Harmless to animals and the planet Harmless to animals and the planet Eliminates the need for complicated system of gears, cams, and levers Eliminates the need for complicated system of gears, cams, and levers

Disadvantages: The plant, aquatic and animal life will be disrupted, leading to their scale destruction, the mating seasons & areas. When the dam land gets larger, the disturbance to the natural ecosystem in forests gets bigger, even humans in the areas around the river have to be shifted. Any breakage in the dam causes large scale destruction of humans, plant and animal lives.

Initial cost of the hydroelectric power plants is very high Unique+ Not Standardized Unique+ requires lots of steel, iron and cement

Hydroelectric power plants are constructed where abundant quantity of water is available throughout the year. A number of safety parameters have to be considered.
