DANGER: Cultural Trend to Escapism

What is escapism? The avoidance of reality by absorption of the mind in entertainment, in an imaginative situation, activity, etc. The tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy

What is escapism? The avoidance of unpleasant, boring, arduous, scary or banal aspects of daily life. It can also be used as a term to define the actions people take to help relieve persistent feelings of depression or general sadness. The attempt to set aside negative thoughts or feelings by pursuing a diversion from reality.

Master your thoughts and emotions by redirecting them in beneficial endeavors. The need for men to get rest from labors (John 4:5-6; Mark 6:30-32). The greater rest our Savior desires to give is spiritual rest (Matthew 11:28-29).

Master your thoughts and emotions by redirecting them in beneficial endeavors. Difference between genuine revitalization and escape from ourselves, our lives and our realities. Overemphasis on self-esteem and “me time” has fueled escapism. Wear Christ’s yoke (Matthew 11:30). Spend yourself doing for others (Philippians 2;3-4; 1 John 3:16).

Master your thoughts and emotions by redirecting them in beneficial endeavors. Cope by seeking healthy and righteous ways to improve real, everyday circumstances of living. Isolation through addictive activities not the solution Attempts to disassociate from life’s negative situations can become a kind of self-destruction. Opposite of mindfulness – sober consideration (Titus 2:12; 1 Peter 1:13; Colossians 3:2)

Master your thoughts and emotions by redirecting them in beneficial endeavors. Renewing our minds is a godly concept, but take heed not to be entangled with worldly allurements. Identify what and why you want to avoid and escape. Limit your time given to relieving activities and return. Seek out healthy interaction as God intends. Remember and renew your aim in Christ.
