Pedigree Charts A pedigree chart is used to record the transmission or the passing on of a particular trait over several generations of a family. A pedigree chart also shows the family relationship among individual.

Pedigree Charts Cont’d Symbols are used to identify the gender, and whether or not that individual has the trait (phenotype) in question. Symbols are also used to show when an individual is homozygous or heterozygous for the trait.
