TRAINED Causes of WWII

1. The lessons of WWI had not TRAINED European leaders on how to prevent another war!

T- Treaty of Versailles 1. Germany is blamed for WWI and forced to pay war reparations, causing economic crisis and resentment

R- Rise of Dictators 1. The rise of Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin see an opportunity and rise in power

A- Appeasement 1. Fear of another war causes European leaders to try to avoid war at all costs by attempting to pacify potential enemies through negotiation

I- Invasions 1. Germany, Italy, Russia and Japan all begin to invade other countries for raw materials, “living space”, and power

N- Non-Aggression Pact 1. Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a nonaggression pact on August 23, 1939, in which they promised not to attack the other. (They secretly split Poland between them)

ED- Economic Depression 1. Worldwide depression b/c of weak European economies and U.S. market crash (1929) causes desperation in many European countries
