5.2b How Does Love Go Wrong?
Healthy Loving Relationships Recognize the equal dignity and basic rights of all involved. Modeled after a Christ-like love. Manipulation, coercion, abuse, jealousy and obsession are signs of an unhealthy relationship. Scripture gives us the direction and inspiration for developing healthy loving relationships.
Evaluating Our Relationships Some people think that jealously and obsession are sure signs of love. In Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians love is described in great detail (see pp. 104-105 in text) Does love accept abuse? – No, this is a misunderstanding of St. Paul’s teaching.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons and daughters of God They are neither passive or aggressive. They are assertive people who know how to express their own wishes clearly and listen carefully to the wishes and needs of others (good communication skills). Able to change a bad relationship into a good life-giving one.
