Presentation transcript:

Why is Colonel pronounced Ker-nal Colonel comes from the Italian word colonello – commander of a column of troops. Four hundred years ago, the English used the Spanish word ‘coronel’ – meaning group leader. The two got smashed together so now we say the Spanish version but spell the Italian version...... Don’t forget – humans created English and we are foolish sometimes.

Grandma Wolf

I’m going to write all this on the board so that you won’t have to write it down anymore. Title: Fiction 5 Date: 15th January 2013 Objective: To examine a character and insert ourselves into the story.

Grandma Wolf What words do you associate with ‘Grandma’ and ‘Wolf’. Why is she called Grandma Wolf? Reminder me – good notes x2 Is this picture of a Granny missing something – on the face?

Note this down Tommo takes responsibility for everything that happens. Everything that Grandma Wolf and the Colonel do, he sees as his fault. “And all along I knew full well whose fault it was”. (page 33) (Keep that in mind as we continue.)

CHAPTER 3 We’re going to read from page 35 – 39 now. When we’re done, I’m going to ask you write yourself into the story. I will pose a situation and ask you to describe it.

CHAPTER 3 “We didn’t know it then, but very soon she would disappear almost totally from our lives, taking all her anger, all her threats and disapproval with her”. (Pg 39) Grandma Wolf is about to leave the house for some reason (not death). Can everyone write a short paragraph on what you would say to her if you were Tommo, Charlie or Molly.

Homework What are Molly’s parents like? Read up to page 46 (end of chapter) Also answer this question in a sentence or two. What are Molly’s parents like? In your reflective journal, note the time you begin and end readings. Make sure to spend time after each reading reflecting and writing what you think.
