21st Century European Classrooms Naples - Italy March 14th-18th 2016
While my students are studying for a test, I’ll show you the way I work in my classes.
In each class, at the beginning, I introduce my students to the concept of digital literacy.
It is important, before we start, to make sure to sensitize minors to a safe and responsible use of the Internet and new media.
Even if the Internet was intended as a tool adult-oriented, nowadays many educational tools are available to our students, who have to be careful and use them in a proper way.
At first, I created communication channels using Gmail and Facebook to facilitate their work and communication with students.
Then, I explain to each student how to create a Gmail account and the best way to use it, as well as tools like Google drive, Google maps, Google photo, etc.
Later on, I explain them how to make a presentation with Google or PPT and how to use a shared Google spreadsheet with the help of information technology teachers.
With Google Drive I create folders in which students can upload their homeworks, which I can comfortably grade at home. In the folders I also upload notes about the topics discussed during lectures at school.
I create for each class a Facebook group, which is used to share notes and videos, to communicate about homeworks and to have discussions. It's a channel with which everybody can keep in touch immediately.
The admin of the various groups is a profile called “Geography of the Vittorio Emanuele II”, created only for the purpose of teaching, in order to minimize privacy intrusions.
