Introduction to Quick Writes To do a lot of good writing, we need to do a lot of bad writing. What is a quick write? It’s quick! 3-4 minutes usually!  We will use songs, poems, short texts, images and videos to SPARK ideas for our own writing!  Borrow a line from our reading, and start there with your own writing. Or take an idea and inspiration and write from there. 

Quick Write #1: "My Name" by Sandra Cisneros, from The House on Mango Street Take a line, idea, or inspiration from the text and write off it!  Maybe try... My name means... I was named for... I wish my name was...

Quick Write #2: "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" by Tupac Shakur Take a line, idea, or inspiration from the text! Maybe try... Did you hear about... Think about someone or something beating the odds to succeed.

Adding on to a Quick Write Look at your two Quick Writes. Choose ONE and... Re-read it Add to it Take things out Make changes Try a different idea
