One: Arise Holy people of God! *Call to Worship Ephesians 1:7 One: Arise Holy people of God! Many: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! All: We praise God that we have redemption through Jesus’ blood, and the forgiveness of sins, in abundance with the riches of God’s grace.

Make Me a Captive, Lord (1) 421 WORDS: George Matheson, 1890 (Eph. 3:1) 1. Make me a captive, Lord, and then I shall be free. Force me to render up my sword, and I shall conqueror be.

I sink in life’s alarms when by myself I stand; imprison me within thine arms, and strong shall be my hand.

Make Me a Captive, Lord (2) 2. My heart is weak and poor until it master find; it has no spring of action sure, it varies with the wind.

It cannot freely move till thou hast wrought its chain; enslave it with thy matchless love, and deathless it shall reign.

Make Me a Captive, Lord (3) 3. My power is faint and low till I have learned to serve; it lacks the needed fire to glow, it lacks the breeze to nerve.

It cannot drive the world until itself be driven; its flag can only be unfurled when thou shalt breathe from heaven.

Make Me a Captive, Lord (4) 4. My will is not my own till thou hast made it thine; if it would reach a monarch’s throne, it must its crown resign.

It only stands unbent amid the clashing strife, when on thy bosom it has leant, and found in thee its life.

*Opening Prayer Ephesians 1 Dear God, We give thanks for the way You have made known to us your will and purpose through Jesus the Christ. We pray that you bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. We place our hope in You and offer You praise, honor and glory.

Children’s Time

Offertory Scripture Reading Ephetians 2:1-10 You were dead through the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. 3 All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us

 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

Offering Our Gifts to God

Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow (Old 100th) 95 WORDS: Thomas Ken, 1674 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;

praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; Glory Be to the Father WORDS: Lesser Doxology, 3rd-4th cent. 70 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

We Are Called *Hymn TFWS #2172 Used By Permission. CCLI License # 11148194

Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord! Come! Live in the light! Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord! We are called to be light for the kingdom, to live in the freedom of the city of God! We are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God!

Show your mercy to all those in fear! Come! Open your heart! Show your mercy to all those in fear! We are called to be hope for the hopeless so all hatred and blindness will be no more. We are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God!

Sing of that great day when all will be one! God will reign, Sing! Sing a new song! Sing of that great day when all will be one! God will reign, and we’ll walk with each other as sisters and brothers united in love! We are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God!

Scripture Reading Ephesians 4:1-5 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

The Message

Affirmation of Faith Ephesians 4:7-16, 22-24 But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it is said, “When he ascended on high he made captivity itself a captive;     he gave gifts to his people.” 9 (When it says, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is the same one who ascended far above all the heavens, so that he might fill all things.) 11 The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles,

some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. 14 We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. 15 But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,

 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love. 22 You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Forward Through the Ages (Verse 1) 555 WORDS: Frederick Lucian Hosmer, 1908 1. Forward through the ages, in unbroken line, move the faithful spirits at the call divine;

gifts in differing measure, hearts of one accord, manifold the service, one the sure reward.

Forward Through the Ages (Refrain) Forward through the ages, in unbroken line, move the faithful spirits at the call divine.

Forward Through the Ages (Verse 2) 2. Wider grows the kingdom, reign of love and light; for it we must labor, till our faith is sight.

Prophets have proclaimed it, martyrs testified, poets sung its glory, heroes for it died.

Forward Through the Ages (Refrain) Forward through the ages, in unbroken line, move the faithful spirits at the call divine.

Forward Through the Ages (Verse 3) 3. Not alone we conquer, not alone we fall; in each loss or triumph lose or triumph all.

Bound by God’s far purpose in one living whole, move we on together to the shining goal.

Forward Through the Ages (Refrain) Forward through the ages, in unbroken line, move the faithful spirits at the call divine.

*Benediction Ephesians 6:23-24 Peace and love to you with faith from God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
