BW 10/19: “What Japanese History Lessons Leave Out” Begin class by reading the article. Answer the six questions that follow. Be ready to discuss! Shinzo Abe: PM of Japan (2012-present)

Yasukuni Shrine Built in 1869 Commemorates those who died in service of Japan 2.5M people are enshrined here Among these are 1,068 convicted war criminals, 14 of whom are A-Class leading to the Yasukuni controversies

Shinzo Abe has visited the shrine in 2013

Yasukuni Controversy China, South Korea and North Korea have called the Yasukuni Shrine “a revisionist and unapologetic approach to Japanese crimes of World War II.” As a result, these governments have protested visits since 1985. After warnings by the U.S., Shinzo refrained from visiting the shrine again.

EA2 Example Evaluate the significance of economic factors in the rise to power of one 20th century authoritarian leader. What is the command term? What are the focus words? How would you approach this essay?

Unit 5 Map Quiz: Asia Several conflicts within this unit (as well as unit 6 – Cold War) focus on Asia. Therefore, it is important you understand exactly where these countries are located! Use 926-927 (WH book) to label 40 countries. Also, label the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Sea of Japan & China Sea.
