ENQUIRY Q1: 4A.3 Past and present connections have shaped the economic and social characteristics of your chosen places.

Task 1: Discuss with your partner how Stockport is shaped by national and regional influences and how these may have changed over time. Is Stockport just a commuter town for Manchester? Is the image of Stockport centre changing? Be prepared to share your thoughts and ideas.

Task 2 Look at the National and Regional forces shaping Middlesbrough and Reading on page 29 of the SUG. Use your phones to research for similar National and Regional influences for Liverpool and Stockport – be prepared to share your findings with the rest of the class. Using page 29 SUG and the feedback from your peers complete Lean Learning page 4A.3a.

Task 3 Look at the Global and International forces shaping Middlesbrough and Reading on page 29 of the SUG. Use your phones to research for similar Global and International influences for Liverpool and Stockport – be prepared to share your findings with the rest of the class. You are likely to find more influences for Liverpool than Stockport – slave trade, cruise liners, city of culture, music – you will need a few facts, figures and dates. Using page 29 SUG and the feedback from your peers complete Lean Learning page 4A.3b.

Task 4: Discuss Liverpool – what is your view of Liverpool? Do you think your view is balanced? What has influenced your view? TV programmes? The news? Your parents? Football bias? Is the image of Liverpool changing? What is the identity of Liverpool? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKsXhKHW2nE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ako5x2N2zc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuIs4vQlhRE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9IaTm-zwXY Using the SUG page 30 – top of page 31 and your phones to research facts and figures for Liverpool and Stockport complete Lean Learning page 4A.3c.

Task 5: Use all the information from today’s lesson to answer the 20 mark question. Think about balance and structure – the Lean Learning sheets will help you. PLAN YOUR RESPONSE BEFORE YOU START WRITING. Think PEEL. Share your plan with your partner, can you improve your work? The response should take about 30 minutes to write.

Review of learning Read the 20 mark response of your partner. Highlight the following words: past, present, connections, social, economic. These words should be used throughout the response!! Now give the work two stars and a wish: Does the response link back to the question? Is punctuation used correctly? Are there facts and figures to back up key points? Is the writing legible? Is the response balanced? Social and Economic? Past and Present? Does the student EVALUATE?
