Chapter 3 – Review From the perspective of the guy highlighted by the arrow, find an example of An extended family A nuclear family A bi-nuclear family

“Frame Game” round of applause

“Frame Game” extended family FAMILYYYYYYYYYY

How much can you tell? Tom and Sally are a heterosexual married couple. Kim and Pam are a same-sex married couple. Trish and Dan, a married couple, live far away from their parents and siblings. Haley and John live in the same town where they grew up, and regularly get together with family members. How many children do each couple have? What is the “power structure” of each family (e.g., matriarchal, patriarchal, egalitarian)?

Chapter 3 – Review What is SES? from a Yahoo news article: Pizza Guy Gets $10 Tip for 85 Pizzas "We live in a society where status is achieved and not ascribed. Money is a measure of how much we've achieved and often people determine a tip based on how much they want to prove their worth.” What is the difference between achieved status and ascribed status?

Chapter 3 – Review T/F Race/ethnicity is a meaningful way to classify humans, since there is a solid biological basis for classification and general agreement about appropriate groups to include. Why should we (i.e., students in this class) care about this? Why should professionals who work with children?

Chapter 4 – Preview Preview What is parenting? What are parenting styles? What are attachment styles? How do child characteristics, particularly temperament and disabilities, effect parenting?
