Elements of Civilization

There are 7 main elements of civilization Create a table on your paper that looks like the one below. This should take up your whole sheet of paper! Element and its meaning Example from Sumer Example from U.S. Stable Food Supply: Social Structure: System of Government: Religious System: Highly Developed Culture: Technology: Written Language:

1.Stable Food Supply: Farming and Domesticated Animals = Agriculture With a stable food supply, people don’t have to worry about food!

2. Social Structure: -Hierarchy with important people at the top and lower class at the bottom. -Various types of jobs 4. Religious System: A system of beliefs and forms of worship (prayer, music, sacrifices) 5. Highly Developed Culture: Creativity in the areas of art, music, literature, and architecture 3. System of Government: - Having rulers who make laws and enforce them.

Technology: Practical tools and inventions that make life easier or more interesting 7. Written Language: A civilivization must have a complex written language.
