Safety Information – Concussion Training Signs and Symptoms of a concussion can include the following: Headache that gets worse or does not go away Weakness, numbness Decreased coordination Nausea or vomiting Slurred or confused speech Drowsy, overly tired for circumstances One pupil larger than the other Inability to recognize familiar things or faces Confused, restless, agitated Inconsolable Distressed breathing Seizures, convulsions Loss of consciousness Bottom Line – if your child is injured and acting even slightly out of character, remove them from the activity and seek medical care immediately.

Safety Information – Concussion Training cont All concussions or suspected concussions must be reported to the health and safety committee as soon as reasonably possible via email (Player Resources > Player Safety) Any player with a head injury or suspected concussion must be removed from their current activity (practice, game, etc) and a parent should be notified. Coaches who suspect a child has a head injury or concussion will remove that child from the activity. Concussion injuries will require a release from the skater’s doctor stating their recommended plan for return to play.

Safety Information – Concussion Training cont Why? Your child’s health is far more important than the current game they are playing. Even a mild concussion has the potential to create lasting effects on your child’s health, mood, and learning.

Injury Reporting Any injury that occurs during an AAHA activity must be reported to AAHA Health and Safety. (Player Resources > Player Safety) Injury reports will go to our health and safety committee to be reviewed and filed. The committee may reach out to the coach, the player, or the family if additional information is needed. WHY? Documentation of injuries and safety events is an important part of tracking safety concerns as well as improving overall organizational safety.

Dibs: Volunteer Work Requirements NEW PER POLICY PLEASE READ THROUGH THE ENTIRE POLICY! Dibs No-Shows – any family who signs up for Dibs credits and then doesn’t show up for the scheduled volunteer hours: a. The family account will be charged the $75.00 per credit fee and this amount will be due within five (5) days of the date of the event. If the fee is not paid in full within five days, the player(s) associated with the account cannot participate in any AAHA activities until this fee is paid in full. Deadline to have Dibs Completed, Scheduled, or Bought Out – the deadline to have your Dibs scheduled or bought out is 11:59pm on January 15th for the current season. Starting midnight on January 16th, membership privileges will be revoked without exception for any family that has not claimed their required volunteer hours or paid the per-credit buy-out fee in full. a) Families will be charged for no-shows and for cancellation of Dibs not rescheduled at the end of the season at a fee of $75.00 per credit owed. Invoices for outstanding Dibs must be paid in full by April 30th. Any invoices not paid in full by April 30th will be subject to collections.

New Family Liaison Michael Wheeler This was new last season and we’re continuing to make improvements! Please reach out to Michael with your ideas! What does the New Family Liaison do? Welcome new families to the organization by reaching out to them shortly after they register. Help families with the transition from Mite to Squirt Be available to answer or refer team related questions for families. Share information about conditioning and evaluations or refer families to the appropriate resources. More to Come!

Conduct Committee conduct@aahahockey.com Handles complaints Documents the complaint process and the outcomes of complaints Maintains documentation and retention or filing of complaints Complaints can be related to players, volunteers, coaches, or parents. Start with your coach! Coaches should report all complaints to the conduct committee. If you don’t feel your situation has been resolved at the coach level – go directly to the conduct committee. GOAL – curb negative or unwanted behavior If you are uncomfortable with a behavior you witnessed – report it!

Reporting Conduct Complaints When possible, communicate your concerns to your coach first. You should also file a conduct report and let the conduct committee know that you talked to your coach regarding the incident. Keep any documentation you may have regarding the incident including names, dates, etc. If you do not feel the situation has been resolved or if the situation escalates, reach out to the conduct committee and let them know you would like them to review your complaint. Provide them with any information or documentation you have regarding the incident. If you are not comfortable communicating your concerns with your coach, file a conduct report and let the conduct committee know you would like them to review your complaint. Fox River Freeze Updates Teams for the 2018-2019 season: U10 U12 (TBD: 1 or 2 Teams) U14 There may be state tournaments for U12A, U12B, U10A, and U10B this season depending on the number of teams Wisconsin has at each of these levels. THIS YEAR – highest number of girls participating in hockey in the state as well as in our area!

What’s New this Season? Powerskating – Amy Brolsma is moving to Colorado! Sad for us, happy for her. Dryland Training – in lieu of scheduled power skating, we are looking at options for organized dry-land training for our teams. Goalies Inc – will continue training with Goalies, Inc throughout the season. Referee Fees – referee fees must be collected by team managers as part of team fees this season. This change reflects recent discussions we have had with FRIHOA and discussions with tax professionals. Player Development Committee (PDC) Breakdown of Tryouts 2018: Process – skills, small area games, scrimmages Evaluators – PDC + additional evaluator with strong hockey knowledge (appointed by PDC) Placements – number of teams and team sizes will be determined based on registration numbers and skill level breakdown from tryouts Practices/Ice Use Limited ice combined team practices Collaborative use of ice stations combined team drills 75/25 split Encourage more practices vs more games GAMES – PDC is recommending no more than 30-40 games at each level NEW!

Have you ever been told to hang up your skates in March… …only to find out everyone else kept their skates sharpened? We encourage kids to play multiple sports.
