Co-Teaching Classroom We will work together to teach all students in the class! Benefits to a collaborative classroom: Two certified educators in the room! More individualized instruction for all students! We plan and stay with the academic pacing of ALL the other 1st grade classes. 1st grade teachers plan together Each student is challenged to their own ability

School Starts at 7:50. Students can arrive as early as 7:15. Attendance School Starts at 7:50. Students can arrive as early as 7:15. If your child is sick and must miss school, you must write a note including the following information: date, reason for absence, phone number where you can be reached, and signature.

Dismissal Dismissal will begin at 2:00 pm each day. Students are never to be picked up from their classrooms without a parent first signing them out at the office. If your child is a car rider, please remain in your car and make sure that your tag is visible in the windshield. You will be asked to park and come inside if you do not have this name tag. Please make sure to always have proper identification.

Early Checkout If you need to check out your child early, then you need to go to the office and sign him/her out. The office will call down to our room for your child to meet you in the office. Same applies if you are here for a special event at school and want to check out early. *No checkouts after 1:45

Transportation Please note that any time your child’s method of transportation changes, we MUST have a note from you. If you forget to send in a note, you will have to come up to the school to tell the office of a change. It is a Cobb County Policy that will ensure your child’s safety. Transportation change notes are found on the main page of the Sope Creek Website. Important! We cannot accept notices of transportation change through email or phone. If you forget to write a note, you must come up to the school and tell them how your child will be going home for that day. If your child comes to school and says they are going home a different way and I have not received a note, We WILL NOT send them home differently. I will send them home the way they would normally go unless the office tells me differently.

Solar Eclipse Cobb County School District has extended the school day by 45 minutes on August 21st. Students 3rd grade and up will only be permitted to go outside to observe the eclipse if they have written permission from a parent. Students without written permission will watch a live broadcast of the eclipse from NASA. *K-2 will watch live streaming Our PTA has purchased NASA approved eclipse viewing glasses for students at Sope Creek Elementary. Parents are welcome to join us, but will need to provide their own eclipse viewing glasses. We will follow regular dismissal procedures.  Students will not be dismissed from the front office after 1:45 pm.

Daily classroom work is not graded, but checked. Grades will be given for report cards based on assessments after concepts have been taught. There will be multiple classroom opportunities for students to practice concepts in class before an assessment is given. You will receive your child’s work in their folders on Fridays, so you can check their progress.

Report Cards

Field Trips First grade loves to go on field trips! We will go on several this year. In the past we have gone to Puppetry Arts and Sibley Pond. Information concerning a field trip will be sent home with your child close to the time the field trip would be planned for. If you choose to pack your child a lunch on the day of a field trip, we recommend packing it in a consumable bag, so that it can be thrown away before we head back to the school.

You will be provided with a schedule and plans for the timeframe. Teacher collaboration times will overlap either specials or lunch time. You do not need to introduce new material or assign grades. Primary Responsibilities of Volunteers: Keep the students safe. Do not take them outside. Only release students when called from the front office. You are a mandated reporter. If you see any signs of abuse, please tell the teacher. Support if there are disruptive students and call the office if you need help. (Ext. 037) Emergency folder by the door. Check for allergies in the classroom. It is possible to get pulled for another classroom if there isn’t coverage. Please sign the sheet to say you are trained.

Check newsletter for additional items throughout the year.
