UNLV initiated program in 2006 UNR Faculty Senate asked HR to research retirement contributions on summer overload NSHE Legal Counsel issued an opinion on June 3, 2011 Mandatory program implemented no later than summer 2013.
Overload Earnings – Earnings on non-contract days which are not eligible for retirement contributions (payroll earnings code – OVL) Extra Duty Assignment – Earnings on non contract days which are eligible for retirement contributions (payroll earnings code – EDA)
Faculty must work at least.5 FTE in period when work performed to be eligible for EDA Period 1 – begins on first non-contract day after Spring semester and ends on June 30 Period 2 – begins on July 1 and ends on the Friday before the first contract day of Fall semester Submit one PAF for EDA earnings code for entire period
Faculty must teach at least 8 credit hours over the three summer sessions Submit one PAF using EDA earnings code for the entire summer (all three sessions) All classes must be listed on the PAF
Must be at least. 5 FTE Coordinate teaching with Extended Studies Notify Extended Studies that combination Teaching and Research are at least.5 FTE Extended Studies will prepare PAF for teaching Faculty member ensures PAF is prepared for research Both PAFs submitted to HR at same time Credit Equivalency to days in policy
Winter and Spring break periods are not eligible for EDA – but OVL allowed Teaching or research less than.5 FTE during summer periods is paid as OVL (no retirement) Program is mandatory No retroactive actions or changes to earnings codes (OVL & EDA) will be processed.
