The Spirit of Love I John 4:13-21
John 14:16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth.”
John 14:26 “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my Name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.”
Romans 8:14, 16 “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”
I Corinthians 6:11 “You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Spiritual Gifts We all have at least one spiritual gift The gifts are different, but the Holy Spirit gives them all When we use our gifts, the Church is healthy and strong
John testifies He was an eyewitness to everything Jesus did The “true” teacher acknowledges Jesus as the Son of God The “false” teacher rejects Jesus
God is Love He proved His love by sending Jesus to die for our sins We should love others as God has loved us Our love for others proves we are God’s children
Confidence & fear We don’t have to fear God’s judgment He proved His love by sending Jesus and giving us His Holy Spirit We can face the return of Jesus with confidence
Romans 8:15 “You did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.”
II Timothy 1:7 “God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self- discipline.”
I John 4:10 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
Proving our love We prove our love for God by loving others If you claim to love God, but you don’t love other Christians, you are a liar (I Jn. 4:20) Whoever loves God must also love his brother (I Jn. 4:21)
