Not for Profit Organizations Describe the following pictures

Not for Profit Organizations This type of organization does not seek profit as its main aim, but instead it raises funds for a specific goal.

Non-Profit Organization A non-profit organization is an organization that does not distribute its surplus funds to owners or shareholders, but instead uses them to help pursue its goals.

Giving & Volunteering in Canada (Social Survey) One way to measure the amount of charity done in a country is to measure the amount of time and money given in that country. Giving & Volunteering in Canada (Social Survey) In 2013, 44% of Canadians volunteered their time and almost twice as many (82%) gave money to a charitable or non-profit organization. While the proportion of Canadians who volunteered their time declined by 3 percentage points between 2010 and 2013, the total number of hours volunteered remained virtually unchanged. Giving & Volunteering in Canada (Social Survey) The percentage of Canadians donating to charitable or non-profit organizations declined in recent years, falling from 84% in 2010 to 82% in 2013. Donation amounts, however, increased. The average annual amount per donor in 2013 was $531, up $61 from 2010. Overall, Canadians gave $12.8 billion to charitable or non-profit organizations in 2013, 14% higher than 2010. Giving & Volunteering in Canada (Social Survey) Of the total donated in 2013, 41% or $5.2 billion were donated to religious organizations, 13% or $1.7 billion to organizations in the health sector and 12% or $1.6 billion to social services organizations. Not for Profit Organizations Non profit organizations’ main aim is to provide a service for the good of the people and the community without any intention to make a profit. Example: Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada (HSF) What are its current fundraising activities? Research 2 other examples of Nonprofit Organizations (with description) found in Canada, then post them on Edmodo (1st Come 1st Serve!)

Not for Profit Organization Well… First of all, why would NPOs need marketing?! Yes they DO!!!

Not for Profit Organization How would the marketing concept of a not for profit organization be different from that of a for-profit business?

Not for Profit Organization NPOs need marketing because they: Have consumers to serve! Need to satisfy consumer’s wants and needs  Exactly the goal of marketing! Need to raise awareness in people’s mind that there are something more important, more rewarding, and more meaningful than money/profit in life! I (Mr. Chou) made this slide! ;) I feel proud!

Not for Profit Organization Target Market Just as a for-profit business targets a certain audience with its marketing, so should a non- profit. Branding It is crucial for the non-profit to build its brand. The brand allows donors, supporters and clients to remember, recognize and trust the organization. Not for Profit Organization Marketing Activities for NPOs Print materials are highly important for educational and promotional purposes. Events offer fundraising opportunities in the non- profit world, whether it is a small silent auction or a five-course banquet offered to hundreds of potential donors.  Online - E-mail communication with current and potential donors builds relationships and loyalty. Websites - Dynamic, quality websites are designed to share the group’s mission, build awareness, educate the public, and establish credibility. Not for Profit Organization Public Relations – Non-profits are beneficial not only for individual groups of people, but also benefit the community. For this reason, public relations are a large part of marketing. The local press should know the story of the non-profit and be aware of new programs that reach out to the community. Social Media – use sites like facebook, twitter, instagram to promote company and raise awareness Source: Houston Chronicle – Small Business “About Marketing in Non-Profit Organizations by Kristie Lorette, Demand Media”. http://smallbusiness.chron.com/marketing-non-profit-organizations-747.html Source: Houston Chronicle – Small Business “About Marketing in Non-Profit Organizations” by Kristie Lorette, Demand Media
