Isa 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! NKJV

Titus 2:11-12 ~ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, NKJV Social Drinking 1 Cor 6:20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. NKJV Motive Are we driven to partake by what we have seen in Scripture or is it the message of the world and we are feeling left out?

Social Drinking? Eph 5:18 ~ And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, NKJV 1 Peter 4:3-4 ~ For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles — when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. NKJV

Social Drinking? Prov 20:1 ~ Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise. NKJV

Social Drinking? Prov 23:29-31 29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. 31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly;

Social Drinking? Prov 23:32-35 32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. 34 Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: 35 "They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?" NKJV

Social Drinking? Effects Hos 4:11 ~ Harlotry, wine and new wine take away the understanding. NASU Hab 2:15 ~ "Woe to him who makes his neighbors drink— you pour out your wrath and make them drunk, in order to gaze at their nakedness! ESV Isa 28:7 ~ … They are out of the way through intoxicating drink; They err in vision, they stumble in judgment. NKJV

Social Drinking? The first drink begins to work on the part of the brain that causes us to act responsibly. NTSB: How much can you recommend and still be safe to drive? 0 % Increasing research says even a little has an effect on the function of judgment.

Social Drinking? 1 Peter 4:3 – “drinking parties” Eph 5:18 ~ And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, NASU Inceptive verb – has to do with the beginning of something not the end; a process that has a certain end. Hab 2:15 ~ Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, pressing him to your bottle, even to make him drunk, that you may look on his nakedness!

Social Drinking? Our present day “wines” are not the “wines” that existed in Biblical times. The alcoholic content of ancient wines was considerably lower than that of modern wine. All wine in ancient times was light wine, i.e. not fortified with extra alcohol. In addition, such light wines were then diluted with water. The ration was often three parts water to one part wine.

Social Drinking? The ancient wine (fermented) was about 6 % alcohol, and then when mixed with water was about 1.1 %. In practical terms: a person in ancient times, drinking such a beverage would have to drink over 22 glasses to equal the person who has two martini’s. Hence when people argue that they only have a glass of wine or a couple of glasses at a meal, in reality (or in biblical terms) they have consumed many more glasses.

Social Drinking? 1 Peter 4:2-4 ~ 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles — when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. NKJV

Social Drinking? Influence – Matt. 5:16; 1 Peter 2:11,12 Potential Harm Physical Damage – 1 Cor. 6:19,20

Marijuana refers to the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds from Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant. The plant contains the mind- altering chemical THC and other similar compounds. Marijuana is a plant that contains THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). When inhaled (smoked) THC quickly passes into the bloodstream. The blood takes the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body. If consumed (eaten) the THC takes a little longer to make its way to the brain. Either way, a person begins to feel the effects rather quickly. Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

People report different experiences, but for the most part ingesting marijuana results in altered sense, changes in mood, slowed body movement, slower thinking and problem solving, or a dulled memory. All forms of marijuana are mind altering. THC acts on specific brain cell receptors that ordinarily react to natural THC-like chemicals. These natural chemicals play a role in normal brain development and function. Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

Marijuana over activates parts of the brain that contain the highest number of these receptors. This causes the "high" that people feel. Other effects include: altered senses (for example, seeing brighter colors) altered sense of time; changes in mood; impaired body movement difficulty with thinking and problem- solving impaired memory ; hallucinations (when taken in high doses) delusions (when taken in high doses) psychosis (when taken in high doses) Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

Marijuana? Long-Term Effects Marijuana also affects brain development. When people begin using marijuana as teenagers, the drug may impair thinking, memory, and learning functions and affect how the brain builds connections between the areas necessary for these functions. Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

The amount of THC in marijuana has been increasing steadily over the past few decades. For a person who's new to marijuana use, this may mean exposure to higher THC levels with a greater chance of a harmful reaction. Higher THC levels may explain the rise in emergency room visits involving marijuana use. Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

The popularity of edibles also increases the chance of harmful reactions. Edibles take longer to digest and produce a high. Therefore, people may consume more to feel the effects faster, leading to dangerous results. Higher THC levels may also mean a greater risk for addiction if people are regularly exposing themselves to high doses. Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

Marijuana? How Does Marijuana Affect a Person's Life? Compared to those who don't use marijuana, those who frequently use large amounts report the following: lower life satisfaction poorer mental health poorer physical health more relationship problems People also report less academic and career success. For example, marijuana use is linked to a higher likelihood of dropping out of school. It's also linked to more job absences, accidents, and injuries. Marijuana? ~ National Institute on Drug Abuse

Marijuana? Distinguishing Medical from Recreational! (1 Tim. 5:23) While the Scriptures do not specifically address recreational “marijuana” use, it is covered under the same category in effects as alcohol. The Bible doesn’t have to mention it directly to say something about it! Being “drunk” or “intoxicated” is sinful no matter what substance brought it about! Marijuana?

For marijuana, studies show that “intoxication” occurs at the ingestion of less than 7 mg of THC. That is approximately the equivalent of four puffs of a marijuana cigarette. In almost all cases, the recreational use of marijuana is done with the intention of achieving some level of intoxication, making it clearly sinful in motive and action. Marijuana?

Gal 5:19-20 ~ Now the works of the flesh are evident, … adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery (pharmakeia), hatred, contentions, ... 21 …drunkenness, revelries, and the like. 1 Cor 9:27 ~ But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
