Spiritual Warfare Sunday February 10th 2019

Applying what you’re about to hear could have significant impact on your life. Side effects include, but are not limited to: Clarity of vision, Lack of apathy, Increased positivity, Renewed sense of self-worth, acute awareness of God’s presence, desire to serve, absence of boredom and love for everyone. Before we move on, I want to issue a disclaimer. In the USA, for any TV advert for any kind of medicine, they have to disclose all side effects. It certainly puts you off trying anything for the first time. Well, I want you to fully understand what could happen in the next 20 minutes or so.

Recap 2 Chronicles – God miraculously gives victory Other occasions, He expected His people to fight David swapped a sandwich for a stone Refused armour New Testament – Spiritual and not physical war

Ephesians 6:12-18 (NLT) 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and- blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12-18 (NLT) 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armour so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armour of God’s righteousness.

Ephesians 6:12-18 (NLT) 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

Ephesians 6:12-18 (NLT) 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Armour – Every Piece Full armour – can’t pick and choose It is OUR DECISION to put the armour on Primarily defensive Don’t get the devil a foothold

Armour – Belt of Truth What comes first? Not like our modern belts Holds everything together

Armour – Belt of Truth It’s called a belt of truth – what is truth? Modern culture - ‘My reality’ God wants us to understand the truth of what’s going on in our life – not deceived There are such things as absolute truths

Some Basics About Truth Jesus was filled with grace AND truth We like the grace but avoid some truths! John 3:21 – Living by truth brings light John 8:22 – Truth makes us free

Some Basics About Truth John 14:7 – The ‘world’ cannot accept truth John 16:13 – The Holy Spirit guides us into truth John 17:17 – The truth sets us apart, it ‘sanctifies’ us We can ‘look clean’ without the truth

Absolute Truths to ‘Bind around us’ * Design and Purpose Authority Responsibility Ownership Seasons Freedom Success * John K. Jenkins

Design and Purpose Psalm 139:14 My soul knows very well Verse 16 – days ordained before one of them came to be

Authority and Responsibility Submission to authority is God’s idea! Romans 13:1 Humility is commended, Pride is condemned Romans 14:12 – Give an account We cannot ‘blame’ others for our actions

Ownership 1 Corinthians 6:19 – We are not our own Psalm 24:1 – The earth and everything in it! All we have is really His This is a guard against selfishness

Seasons Not all ‘times’ are the same Galatians 6:9 – In due season we will reap 2 Timothy 4:2 – In season and out of season – In good times and in the bad! Suffering Discouragement and doubts come from a wrong understanding

Freedom and Success Galatians 5:1 – It was for freedom Satan will lead you to believe you’ll never be free John 8:36 – Will set you free Joshua 1:8 – Keep the law and then you will be prosperous and successful Psalm 1:2-3 – Whatever they do will prosper Doing and being what God has called us to be

Absolute Truths to ‘Bind around us’ Design and Purpose Authority Responsibility Ownership Seasons Freedom Success Everything in life is related to one of these truths. Living a Godly life will result in Satan trying to undermine some or all of these. Bind them around your waist. Strap them around you. Tuck everything you have into these. Don’t take a step forward until you have placed it INSIDE of the belt of truth.
