Screen Management System

4K video processing for your installation There’s a growing demand for extremely high-resolution, high performance display technology for todays video-based installations. \

Switching terms explained Matrix Switcher Scaler / Converter Composition 1 2 3 LIVE Routing which input signal(s) go to which output signal(s) – without any scaling nor conversion Converting one signal to another type, and/or adjusting the resolution or frequency Using an AUX destination with E2, S3-4k, or standard outputs with ImagePro-4k Integrated scaling and switching to enable seamless live switching Using E2 or S3-4k to combine sources using native backgrounds and layered PiPs

Smart Solutions Barco is a reliable partner for all your projects Build to Order State-of-the-art Reliable Modular Scalable “Build to Order” configurations to support a wide variety of project configurations Industry leading “Athena” scaling without comprimising signal quality and latency Ruggedized engineering that is built for mission critical projects with 24/7 uptime Modular hardware design to enable easy repairs and future upgrades Comprehensive: Small switchers for Breakouts and meeting rooms like the PDS Simple switching or complex conversions with the ImagePRO Large complex shows with the Event Master processors depending on size. State of the Art: Latest generation of our proprietary scaling technology that only adds 1 frame of latency to locked systems with progressive signals. Full 4K@60p 4:4:4 scaling and signal processing. 12 bit per pixel scaling and signal back bone to provide the highest quality possible with extremely low latency. Reliable @ Live: Lowest latency processing for live signals, to keep lip sync issues at bay. Road worthy designs that are rigorously tested for impact, vibration, and temperature extremes. Future Proof: Input, output, and processing cards are modular so that the system can grow and evolve as your shows do. The software is continually evolving to provide new features and functionality. As new signal interfaces become available, new cards will be built to support them.

When is low latency important whenever there is real-time interaction with the video content Cameras in the Venue Gaming (eSports) Video Conferencing Remote Control (KVM)

Why is 12bit 444 color processing important Unsmooth color gradient 12 bit 4:4:4 8bit 4:2:0 Jagged Edges

Why is fast & seamless switching important Source “A” 2-5secs in Black Source “B” Source “A” Source “B” Noise and/or Loss of Sync

Barco Screen Management Systems Input Types An input can be defined as: ‘Background” ‘Source’ for either Screen or Aux Destination Background: Always Layer 0 Native Canvas Resolution Multiple inputs can be combined to create 1 widescreen (multi-channel) background` Layers (PiPs): Uses a scaler to resize the source Layered on top of background Can can be resized, positioned, and decorated Can be defined by a single input or a combination of mulitple inputs

Scaling Layers – Mix Layers Vs Single Layers Two scalers bound together in mixing mode for input A/B crossfading on PGM A Screen Destination must have at least one mix layer for PiPs to mix between inputs of different resolutions Always a channel available in PVW Can always transition seamlessly Preset recall to PVW will not cause resource conflicts with the following: Source Change Layer Effect Border Adjustment Shadow Adjustment During transition from PVW to PGM, sources are cross dissolved on PGM at the same time. This gives the look of a seamless transition. Two builds – one for preset recall, one for transition

Scaling Layers – Mix Layers Vs Single Layers Single scaler (More of these available in System) Cannot seamlessly transition If layer exists on PGM, changing source in PVW causes a resource conflict Cannot manually change anything in PVW if PGM is Locked Preset recall to PVW creates resource conflicts if layer is on Locked PGM Source Change Layer Effect Border Adjustment Shadow Adjustment Preset Conflict Resolution Modes: Force Recall Change Locked PGM (Glitchy Looking) Auto (Default Mode) Preset recall will remove layer from Locked PGM until Operator performs transition User Confirm Pop-Up Dialog with choices for Operator Off No Change; Error Pops up requiring user interaction Animation shows Automatic (default) conflict resolution: Two builds – one for preset recall, one for transition Unlocked PGM has same effect as “Force Recall”

Mixing modes : Terminology Program (PGM) is the on-screen output Preview (PVW) is the preview of a layout before transitioning on-screen (PGM) Single Layer : Layer without Preview where the layer does not have “A-B” mixing capability May create resource conflicts if layer is already on screen (PGM) Cannot transition seamlessly, must “dip to black” Doubles the number of layers that can be shown simultaneous Mixing Layer Layer that performs a transition from preview to on-screen (PGM)

Genlock – Synchronize the inputs Prevent tearing by using Genlock to synchronize multiple video signals from one or more media servers

Barco Screen Management Keying TITLE TITLE Keying a source allows part of the picture to be rendered transparent, permitting you to “see through” to the content behind it. Commonly used for lower thirds title graphics over live camera or Logo insertion Keying is done in a layer Luma, Chroma and Cut + Fill (Linear) key types Luma Key Example TITLE TITLE Chroma Key Example Cut + Fill MUST use a mixer as it uses one half for cut source, the other half for fill source.
