Covetousness Defined Extreme desire for things - gain in dishonest way Love of Money Pharisees - Luke 16:14 “who were covetous” 2 Tim. 3:2 - “lovers of money” - “covetous” A person does not have to be rich to be covetousness, nor does he have to be rich to make riches his god !

Warnings about covetousness “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour's.” Exodus 20:17 Psalms 119:36 “and not to covetousness” Habakkuk 2:6 Woe to him that increaseth [that which is] not his! Isaiah 5:8 “Woe unto them that…”

Why is anyone Covetous ? Ignorant of the “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” Luke 12:15 Mathew 6:19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:”

Why is anyone Covetous ? Ignorant of the 1 Timothy 6:6-8 “But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

Why is anyone Covetous ? Ignorant of the Eccl. 12:13-14 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

Covetousne$$ A common Sin Let us learn that “things” are not the most important “things” ! What difference will it make 100 years from now ?

Covetousne$$ “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.” Matt. 16:26 Happiness is not determined by what we have but by what we are !
