INTRODUCTION EVERY STUDENT SHOULD CHOOSE SUBJECTS AFTER CONSULTATION WITH PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND/OR COUNSELOR. STUDENTS NEED TO EXERCISE CARE WHEN MAKING SELECTIONS, AND WHEN CONSIDERING PERSONAL NEEDS, CAPABILITIES, AND FUTURE GOALS.

COURSE LOAD REQUIREMENTS p. 4 Every Elida Senior High School student must register for a minimum course load of five (5) periods each semester (P.E. is not included) per Board Policy EHS is on a seven period day, so students can take a maximum of seven classes each semester.

COURSE SELECTION & SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS p COURSE SELECTION & SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS p. 4 Course selections are to be made carefully and are also considered to be “BINDING”. Since few schedule change requests will be granted, please take time to seriously consider scheduling choices.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS P. 4 English- 4 units Mathematics- 4 units -1 each from a different level H/PE, 1 unit- ½ of health ½ PE* Science- 3 units- 1 physical and 1 biological Social Studies-3 units –World Studies 9, US Social Studies 10 and P.E.D. Fine Arts**- 1 year Total 21 credits *A student who participates in 2 seasons (while in high school) of interscholastic athletics, cheerleading or marching band is not required to complete PE. In this case no credit is given (2 PE waiver forms MUST be turned in) **Students must complete at least 2 semesters of F.A. grades 9-12 or Band/Choir in 7/8. Band/Choir classes taken in Grade 7-8 do not receive credit.

COLLEGES will look at the following when evaluating potential students: Class rank Cumulative grade point average Rigor of curriculum taken ACT and or SAT test results Extra curricular activities and leadership capabilities Recommendations submitted by school personnel Essays (for some schools)

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY p. 13 ENROLLED IN AND PASSING MINIMUM 5 FULL CREDIT OR ONE-HALF CREDIT COURSES. Pass 5 other than PE. Eligibility will be checked each 9 week grading period INCOMING FRESHMEN MUST ALSO BE PASSING A MINIMUM OF 5 CLASSES MUST MAINTAIN 1.5 ACCUMULATIVE GPA

NCAA Initial Eligibility: pp. 13-18 In order to be considered eligible to play and/or receive any scholarship money at an NCAA Division I or Division II college or university, certain academic requirements must be met. The requirements will vary depending upon the NCAA Division (I, II or III) in which the university competes. To be eligible under NCAA Division I requirements, students must pass 16 core courses and meet standards on a sliding scale for Core GPA and College entrance Test Scores. To be eligible under NCAA Division II requirements, students must: -Pass 16 core courses and -Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in those core courses and -Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching their core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale

Division I 16 CORE COURSES -4 years of English -3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher) -2 years of natural/physical science ( 1 year of lab if offered by the school) -1 year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. -2 years of social science. -4 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy) Division II 16 CORE COURSES -3 years of English -2 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher) -2 years of natural/physical science ( 1 year of lab if offered by the school) -3 year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. -2 years of social science. -4 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy) Division III: To be eligible to play under NCAA Division III requirements, the student must be accepted by the college or university and satisfy that institutions academic requirements.

College Credit Plus Some classes at Elida High School will be offered as “dual enrollment” classes through local universities. The instructor for these classes is an adjunct professor with the university. Enrollment in the program will be determined once ALL steps of the CC+ process have been successfully completed by the student. In order to enroll in college courses (at EHS, on a campus, or online), all students will need to follow the rules for CC+, which will be discussed at the February 6, 2019, CC+ meeting. In order to be considered for CC+, the following criteria must be met: 1. Receive counseling from a high school guidance counselor and sign the waiver mandated by legislation (student & parents). 2. Must apply to the college by April 1 and be accepted by a college that has been approved to participate in the program by the Ohio Department of Education. 3. Will either need to take an admissions test (Accuplacer) from that college or have taken the ACT and achieved a remedial free score by April 1. 4. Students/parents must notify school districts by April 1, 2019 of interest in the program by turning in the CC+ Letter of Intent. 5. A transcript request is due to counselor by May 1 (regardless of whether CC+ courses taken at EHS or on a college campus) 6. If attending off EHS campus, a copy of college schedule and a textbook agreement signed in the office by August 15.
