GOD’S ISRAEL TODAY
Jehovah renamed Jacob, Abraham’s grandson, Israel (genesis 32:24-28) God called him Israel because he strove with God and with men and prevailed. God reiterated the importance of the name Israel (Genesis 35:9-12).
Ancient Israel was a chosen nation of God. “My people” (Exodus 3:6-10) Sons of Israel became Jehovah’s possession, kingdom and nation (Exodus 19:3-6). Deuteronomy 5:1-3 But Israel was an obstinate and unfaithful people of God.
Under a new covenant, God’s redeemed people become Israel (Jeremiah 31:31-34). Jehovah longed for repentance and restoration of Israel. Jeremiah 24:5-7; Ezekiel 11:16-20 The remnant turned aside again from God (Malachi 3:6-7)
Under a new covenant, God’s redeemed people become Israel (Jeremiah 31:31-34). Jesus Christ is the Mediator of the New Covenant which enables Israel to become God’s people (Hebrews 8:6-13; 9:15). Jew and Gentile become one people by being reconciled into one body through the cross (Ephesians 2:11-16, 19).
The Israel of God is now all who are new creatures through Christ Jesus (Galatians 6:14-16). God’s Israel is not those who are circumcised in the flesh (Genesis 17:10). “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.” (Galatians 5:6)
The Israel of God is now all who are new creatures through Christ Jesus (Galatians 6:14-16). Abraham’s descendants are sons of God through faith in Christ (Galatians 3:26, 29; 4:26, 28). God’s Israel today is the children of promise who are recipients of God’s mercy (Romans 9:6, 8). God’s plan all along was to give access to Jews and Gentiles (9:23-26). God calls both to be saved (10:12-13, 17).
The Israel of God is now all who are new creatures through Christ Jesus (Galatians 6:14-16). The circumcision that matters is now a circumcision of the heart (Colossians 2:11). “For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.” (Romans 2:28-29)
