94 Year Old Man on Trial

A 94-year-old former SS concentration guard on trial on hundreds of counts of accessory to murder painted himself Tuesday as an unwilling participant in the Nazi machinery of death. Johann Rehbogen is accused of working as a guard at the Stutthof concentration camp east of Danzig, which is today the Polish city of Gdansk, from June 1942 to about early September 1944. Rehbogen said he had ended up in the German military but had not volunteered to serve in the SS. Rehbogen was 18 at the time. He faces a maximum 10 years in prison if convicted. Though there is no evidence linking him to a specific crime, the prosecution argues that, as a guard, he was an accessory to the killings at Stutthof while he was there. In all, more than 60,000 people were killed in the camp. The trial opened last week in Germany in a regional court.

When a neighbor displayed a Nazi flag and a Confederate flag outside his home on Election Day, November 6, residents of Fruita, Colorado, organized a peaceful protest calling for the homeowner to take down the flags. But not everyone felt the same. The protest was met with another protest, with residents vouching for the family's right to fly the flag. The flags were eventually taken down. "We understand that people are entitled to their own opinions, but we live in a small community and we have to respect one another without promoting hate." one protestor said. Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler is among those affected by the California wildfires. Kapler revealed that his Malibu house was completely burned down. However, his family was not harmed. Britain's Prince Charles, the heir apparent of Queen Elizabeth II, has been "monarch-in-waiting" since 1952. That's the longest in British history. He celebrates his 70th birthday on Wednesday, November 14. The Leonid meteor shower of shooting stars is expected to peak late Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
