UI-ASSIST WEBINAR: Forecasting in Distribution System – Load and PV For the purposes of distribution system modeling and controls in UI-ASSIST, it is important to forecast the individual contributions of gross load and PV to the net load seen by the utility. This webinar will cover ETAP's work on load forecasting and Hawaii Natural Energy Institute's (HNEI's) work on PV forecasting. It will also cover HNEI's previous PV and net load data sets and how they are being applied to UI-ASSIST. Finally, it will introduce an approach for using sparse PV measurements to estimate generation at all rooftop PV locations across a distribution circuit. ETAP is using machine learning based statistical methods for point load forecasting at the home, transformer, feeder, and substation levels. Probability based quantile distribution load forecasting is used to increase the confidence level of the results. For long term planning, time series Holt-Winters method can be applied with monthly peak load data. HNEI is developing a low-cost, high resolution PV forecasting system that combines information from ground based omni-directional cameras, satellite imagery, and numerical weather prediction. The system produces a range of estimates and predictions from nowcasts to minutes and days ahead. Please join our monthly UI-ASSIST webinar on November 29, 11am – 12pm PST. By computer: https://goo.gl/mJ2pdh By phone: 510-338-9438, meeting number 298 236 336 Our next webinar will be on January 31st, with Dr. Anuradha Annaswamy, Director of the Active-Adaptive Control Laboratory at MIT presenting. Dr. Ahmed Y Saber is currently Principal Power Engineer (R&D) with ETAP, USA. He has published over 75 technical papers and holds 2 patents on AI. His research interests include renewables, micro-grid, forecasting, optimization and AI applications. Dr. Kevin Davies is an Assistant Researcher at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI). His background includes modeling and controls ranging from the automotive industry to electric distribution. He has contributed to HNEI's analysis of high penetrations of renewable energy in the Hawaiian Islands and leads HNEI's development of an advanced distribution power monitor system.
