A typical day…Secondary 7.30 Arrive and prepare 8.35 Tutor time 8.55-10.55 Lessons 10.55-11.15 Break duty 11.15-3.00 Lessons/ planning/ marking 3.15-4.15 Meeting 5.00-7.00 Home! 7.00-9.30 Planning/ preparation/ marking
A typical day…Primary 7:45 Arrive at school. Put the early work on the board so the children have something to do as soon as they get into the classroom. Prepare resources for the day’s lessons (first one, Literacy). Write up learning objectives for Literacy and Numeracy. If it’s a Monday we have a briefing at 08:20 8:35 Get ready to speak to any parents/carers 8:50 Register children, take any money for lunch, trips etc. 9:00 Attend or take Assembly. 9:30 Literacy lesson – differentiated, of course. 10:30 Break time, unless on duty or covering a colleague’s duty. 10:45 Numeracy –12:05 Lunchtime 1:00pm Children come back from lunch break for registration For the rest of the afternoon two subjects are covered 3:25 Time to get the children to the correct parent/carer/guardian/club, If time – clear up the classroom, return resources unless….. Most days get home between 6.00 and 7.00pm. 8.00pm-10.30pm – Marking and planning

How is teaching like being an astronaut???
‘On paper, my career trajectory looks preordained: engineer, fighter pilot, test pilot, astronaut. Typical path for someone in this line of work, straight as a ruler. But that’s not how it really was. There were hairpin curves and dead ends all the way along. I wasn’t destined to be an astronaut. I had to turn myself into one.’
