Who Am I? Mother of 2 children Teacher (STEM) Life-Long Learner I am a mother of 2, my son is 16 years old and my daughter is 14. I have 2 Master Degrees in Education. I am a STEM Teacher (100 professional development credit hours) from my previous school. I have worked with children for 20 years (pre-k through 3rd grade) and I was a Stay-At-Home Mom for 8 years. Child development has been my life.

My Educational Philosophy I have very high expectations and standards for all children. I am nurturing and disciplined and I promote these qualities in the classroom environment. I believe in working together as a community. Without trust we cannot be successful. I create a classroom environment where a child is safe to succeed and fail. It is our failures that allow us to grow and develop. I take time to bond with my students so I can learn who they are, which provides me insight into each child’s skill level.

Students Needs Drive Instruction All Children Can Learn Nurturing Classroom Environment Based on Respect, Expectations and Objectives Students Needs Drive Instruction Working Together As A Community to Develop Self-Sufficient Learners I believe in differentiated instruction. I respect each child level of achievement and we progress throughout the school. In order for our children to develop and master skills and knowledge it is important that everything I do in class is supported at home. If you ever have questions about anything we are doing in class please feel free to contact me. Exploratory Learning

Behavior Structure and Parent Communication Classroom behavior is the most important component to learning. If a child does not follow routines, procedures and instructions they will not learn. I also believe that we as adults should work together in the best interest of the child to achieve the best outcomes. Caption

Quarter One Objectives The following slides contain information about the areas of focus according to the Chicago Public School Curriculum Framework and the Common Core Standards for the first Quarter. Quarter 1 Progress Reports go out on October 6th. Quarter 1 ends November 2nd.

Students will no longer be assessed using NWEA MAP testing, instead we are using the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS). This assessment will provide more accurate information than NWEA. This assessment will provide an informative diagnostics for reading, spelling, and writing. Balanced Literacy is broken into Reading, Writing and Word Study. We have two units for the first quarter: September: Reading and Writing Workshop Launch that will focus on routines and procedures along with the each Area of Focus. We will focus on All About Me and My Family in Social Science. October: Bats which will be incorporated into our Science Unit.

Science Waves: Light & Sound Bats/Echolocation Social Science All About Me My Family Science Waves: Light & Sound Bats/Echolocation We will always do a cross curricular unit that goes along with ELA. Yes you see the Simpsons. Families are not perfect and the Simpsons are a great example of that. We are all unique…. when we focus on our family unit I would like for everyone to be honest about what makes our family special, different and fun. Let’s be proud in what makes us different.

Math Kindergarten Review/Pre-Assessment Operations and Algebraic Thinking: Addition Subtraction Number Fluency We will continue with NWEA MAP for the District Math Assessment. This Quarter we will work with Go Math Chapters 1-3.

Homework Due September 5, 2017 Students need to bring recent picture for a class project. Student Only Portrait (Class picture will do) 3x5 or Wallet size only
