Semester Goals (Pre Mid-term Exam) Week 5 – Reviewing Chapter 1 and Starting Chapter 4 – “The best place in the world.” - Reviewing comparisons from Blue book’s Chapter 7 - Learning and being able to talk about superlatives and starting to use those superlatives in conversations. Week 6 – Continue and finish Chapter 4 - Making conversations with superlatives (sketch practice) - Start preparing for Mid-term Exam

Semester Goals (Pre Mid-term Exam) Week 7 – Mid-term Exam Review - Have discussions using what you learned in chapters 1 and 4 - Reviewing everything as a class by playing a game. Week 8 – Mid-term Exam Chapters 1 and 4 - Part 1 = Writing - Part 2 = Speaking

Vacation Plans (Agreeing - Positive) A: What are you doing this summer? “doing” – is used when you want to know a person’s action. B: I’m going on vacation. Here is the action – “going” A: So am I! (Me, too!) Both people’s answers are positive = agree

Vacation Plans (Agreeing - Negative) A: What are you doing this summer? B: I’m not going on vacation. When two people both use negative answers about one topic = agree A: Neither am I.

Vacation Plans (Disagreeing – Negative and Positive) A: What are you doing this summer? B: I’m not going on vacation. When one person using a negative answer and the other positive = disagree A: Really? I am.

Which is larger? Which = comparing things Q: Which is larger, Pyeongtaek or Seoul? A: Seoul is larger than Pyeongtaek. “larger than” = choosing which is larger (comparison) This is from Chapter 7 in the Blue book. Q: Which is more comfortable, sneakers or heels? A: Sneakers are more comfortable than heels.

Which is the largest? Which = choosing among certain things Q: Which is the largest city in South Korea: Pyeongtaek or Seoul? A: Seoul is the largest city in South Korea. Here is the superlative! Seoul Q: Which is larger, the Atlantic or Pacific? A: The Pacific is the largest ocean in the world.

What is the biggest? What = naming one thing Q: What is the longest river in the world? A: The Nile is the longest river in the world. Here is the superlative! Q: What is the biggest desert in the world? A: The Sahara is the biggest desert in the world. Biggest = Largest The Sahara

Most...? (asking for opinions) Q: Which city is the most beautiful: Seoul, Busan, or Gwangju? Here is the superlative! A: I think Gwangju is the most beautiful city! “I think…” = your opinion A: Which is the most delicious Starbucks drink: Caramel macchiato or Mocha? Q: I think Caramel macchiato is the most delicious Starbucks drink.

Colons and commas! Q: Which city is the most beautiful: Seoul, Busan, or Gwangju? Use a colon when asking for the superlative of things (Which) A: I think Gwangju is the most beautiful city! A: Which is larger, a guitar or violin? Use a comma when comparing. Q: A guitar is larger than a violin.

Free Talk! • Ask your group members and discuss: 1. Which is the most beautiful city in Korea? (give choices! - opinion) 2. Which is the most delicious dessert you have ever eaten? 3. What is the best Korean dish? (opinion!) • Look up three countries on your smart phone and find out which is the largest city in each one and which one is the most beautiful (your opinion!)

Semester Project You and your group will write a role-play (dialogue) You will choose chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, or 6 to write your dialogue with (Choose only one to three chapters!) Use the words and expressions in those chapters to write your dialogue with.

Semester Project The dialogue must be 8 – 10 lines long. A rough draft of your dialogue is due by week 11! (3 participation points!!) If you want to use the words and expressions in chapters we have not learned yet, it is OK!
