THE STANDARDS OF THE KING MATTHEW 5-7

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING We are not good enough to enter God’s kingdom, but Jesus is good enough to get us in.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING I. Beatitudes (5:3-11): Kingdom Values II. Salt and Light (5:13-16): Kingdom Representatives III. Interpreting the Law (5:17-48): Kingdom Standards IV. Shunning Hypocrisy (6:1-18): Kingdom Spirituality V. Money and Worry (6:19-34): Kingdom Treasure VI. Our Judgments and God’s Judgment (7:1-12): Kingdom Relationships VII. The Narrow Way (7:13-27): Kingdom Entry

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING God’s standards are higher than you think.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17–20

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. Leviticus 19:2

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING God’s standards are higher than you think. Your heart is darker than you realize.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:1–5

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING God’s standards are higher than you think. Your heart is darker than you realize. Only Jesus can bridge the gap.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons,

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING and in Your name perform many miracles?’And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” Matthew 7:21–27

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:3–4

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING God’s standards are higher than you think. Your heart is darker than you realize. Only Jesus can bridge the gap.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING We are not good enough to enter God’s kingdom, but Jesus is good enough to get us in.

THE STANDARDS OF THE KING Acknowledge your sinful heart. Thank God that Jesus bridges the gap. Ask God to transform you through the Spirit.
