Introduction to Mendelian Genetics Dr. Nichols Coronado HS

Key Concepts Alleles: Different VERSIONS of a gene. (Examples: hair color, eye color) Dominant versus recessive alleles(A and a) Genotype versus Phenotype

Major Accomplishments Known as the “Father of Genetics,” for his work with pea plants. Mendel demonstrated that the inheritance of certain traits in pea plants follows particular patterns. Demonstrated that particular phenotypes had certain genotypes behind them and with that information you could predict the traits of the offspring.
