I can deliver well-organized presentations on concrete social, academic, and professional topics. I can present detailed information about events and experiences in various time frames Write on a variety of general interest topics, professional, academic and personal. I can easily follow narrative, informational, and descriptive texts. I can sometimes understand extended arguments and different points of view. Goal for this year: Adnvanced low-high Our mission: OWL or Organic World Language acquisition. To provide a space for positive collaboration to create active learning environments that foster student engagement and empowerment. What you need for Español: ½-1 inch binder with 3 dividers Loose leaf paper 1 pack Dry erase markers Colored pencils 12pk Highlighter 1 pk of colored markers Blue/black pens and pencils Pocket dictionary (optional) Class expectations: Always Respect Always Participate Always in Target Language 3 bathroom passes every 9 weeks No food once in class. No unauthorized cell phone use. This course is conducted in Spanish. Immersion is proven to be the most effective path to proficiency in a second language. It is normal for students to feel frustrated and lost at the beginning. Trust the process. We will have time dedicated to speaking English and clearing up misunderstandings.

Other topics will be explored based on student interest. 1st 9wks: Grades & Make-ups --Daily grades will be 30% of your nine week grade. Test (this includes quizzes and many presentations) grades will be 70% of your nine week grade. The final exam is worth one-fifth of your final average. --Make ups Assignments for the week will be posted online as given in class.. It is the student’s responsibility to check available resources. If the student is absent one day only, the student is expected to be prepared for class when he or she returns. This includes tests and quizzes. In cases of prolonged absences or extenuating circumstances, more time will be allowed. The attendance policy of the school will be followed in this course. Make-up tests and quizzes for excused absences will be given on Friday mornings at 7:20 in B217. Students are encouraged to be prompt in order to complete the make-up test by 8:00. (All tests will be taken up at that time) Patriot Path make-up sessions may also be offered in a WL classroom. Using speaking, listening, reading and writing strategies we will explore the following topics as well as target language cultural awareness through music, video, literature and other authentic materials. These topics will be practiced in a variety of tenses throughout the course. Other topics will be explored based on student interest.
