NGfL CYMRU GCaD WOOD OCCUPATION SKILLS SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Shop fitting design will often incorporate a retailers individual branding. Some shops in large chains will be similar, if not identical in design. Smaller shops may be individually designed. Whether a shop is large or small, shop fitting is a specialist trade. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Shop fitting cabinets are made from sheet materials that are cut to size. In the above photograph, a carpenter is marking out the position of door hinges. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Pre-fabricated shop fitting cabinets are fitted together on site. Measurement has to be very accurate for everything to fit together. To ensue there are no gaps between cabinets, a kreg joint is used, as shown in the red circle. A close up is shown on the next slide. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD To make a kreg joint, screws holding timber together are driven in at an angle of 45°, so that the head of the screw is concealed. Once delivered to site, cabinets are butted up to each other so that gaps between them are invisible. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Once cabinets are made, any gaps between joints are filled before the cabinets are despatched. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Some items might be pre-finished with veneers: other items may require painting. The top photo shows a paint spray booth, and the bottom photo shows a spray gun. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Once all items are built, rigorous quality checks take place before goods are sent to site. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD At the design stage, accurate plans are drawn up which show where each item will be placed. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Shop design can include both fixed and mobile displays to maximise the use of floor space. SHOPFITTING

NGfL CYMRU GCaD Circulation areas need to be wide enough for people to pass each other, and to browse. They also need to be wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs under Disability Discrimination Act(s) of Parliament.
NGfL CYMRU GCaD The following slides show a fit-out taking place.
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Once goods are ready for despatch, they are packed in containers and delivered to site by road transport.
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Each stage of work is carefully planned, from beginning to end. Once one tradesman has completed his work, then another tradesman can follow on. Maintaining continuity of trades is crucial to an effective fit-out. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Shop fitting can often take place as shops stay open. Continuation of trading is critical to a shops business plan: in these circumstances, shop fitting may take place in extremely cramped conditions, as shown in the following slides. SHOPFITTING
NGfL CYMRU GCaD Due to a lack of space inside the shop, workbenches for making final adjustments were set up outside. SHOPFITTING
