Manufacturing Processes
Welding. Welding is a fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing coalescence. This is often done by melting.
Electron-Beam Machining
Practical Metalworking
PLASMA ARC WELDING ( PAW) Is an arc welding process similar to gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Plasma arc welding is an arc welding process wherein coalescence.
Plasma Arc Welding The objective of the Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) process is to increase the energy level of the arc plasma in a controlled manner. This.

Presentation transcript:

Plasma Arc / Jet Machining / Cutting Uses plasma (high temp. ionized gas) to rapidly vaporize material

Plasma Arc Cutting Uses plasma stream at very high temperatures to cut metal 10,000C to 14,000C Plasma arc generated between electrode in torch and anode workpiece The plasma flows through water‑cooled nozzle that constricts and directs plasma stream to desired location

Plasma Arc Cutting When the power supply is on , an electric arc is produced between tungsten cathode electrode placed in torch and anode work piece. An inert gas ( Argon , H2, N2 ) is passed into the torch body in which arc is produced. 2. As gas comes in contact with the electric arc , the high velocity electrons of the arc collide with gas molecules , causing a breaking of the diatomic molecules into ions and electrons due to this gas gets heated and ionized resulting in a substantial increase in the conductivity of the gas which is now in plasma state. 3 This plasma is forced through the outlet orifice( water cooled nozzle ) of Torch . This results in the formation of plasma jet and material is removed by directing a high velocity jet of high temp. ionized gas to desired location on the work piece.

Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC) • PAC temperatures: 10,000°C to 14,000°C • Cutting flat metal sheets and plates and hole piercing and cutting along a defined path operated by hand-held torch or automated by CNC • Can cut any electrically conductive metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum
