Learning Target 1/15/16: Students will finish creating a map of the Woodlawn area. Students will demonstrate their understanding of episode 6 “The Case Against Adnan“ by evaluating evidence against Adnan and to generate conclusions to whether or not it proves his guilt.

Partner Activity Requirements: Partner Activity Requirements: * Listen to the first twenty minutes of Episode 5… A. Using Google Earth or Maps, create a map of the Woodlawn area, create a driving route of labeled locations, and indicate the times of the calls made the afternoon and evening of the 13th according to the pinged cell towers (use cell tower document on the serialpodcast website).

Following Sarah and Dana in route of State’s timeline… Woodlawn High School Best Buy parking lot (18 minutes – 3 minutes left to kill and put body in trunk) I-70 Park and Ride Forest Park Golf Course (buy weed) Patapsco Valley State Park Woodlawn High School (track practice)

B. Compare your map to your notes on Jay’s story and answer the following questions: 1.To what degree does the map corroborate Jay’s story? 2.What sticks out most to you about Jay’s story and your map of routes, locations, and times? 3. Is it truthful enough to convict Adnan, is it so impossible that you have to throw out Jay’s testimony, or is it somewhere in the middle? Explain your answer. ** Map due by the end of the period.

Jarring, reconvene, conspicuous, inundate, devious, exculpatory

“Over the past few weeks I have been holding up “bits of evidence” here and there that look bad for Adnan. Today I am just going to lay out the rest. Everything else that a person could reasonably add to the “Adnan is guilty” side of the scale. Let’s just line everything up side by side.” - Sarah Koenig Episode 6

Listening Notes: Building Your Case *While listening to episode 6 “The Case Against Adnan” of Serial, you will take notes by creating a 3 column T-chart. You will hear “bits of evidence” against Adnan. Listen for counterpoints for each piece of evidence and decide if you believe the evidence stands up as “proof” of Adnan’s guilt.

Homework for Tuesday: Listen to episode 6, “The Case Against Adnan,” complete vocab, and take notes with T-chart. Make sure you fill out the third column after finishing the episode, which will provide your personal evaluation of the evidence.
