The Role of the Tutor As your child’s form tutor I will play a pivotal role in their schooling life Remain as the 1st point of contact Develop a culture and ethos to encourage students to become resilient and independent Tutor time is used to develop students communication, literacy and numeracy skills

Pastoral Organisation For any form of contact we would ask that on the first occasion you contact me as your son/ daughters tutor. If it is a curriculum question I will redirect the enquiry as needed. For other pastoral issues the Head of Year or Assistant Head of Year may become involved. Tutor Time Tutor time is an additional session for learning Our tutor programme covers a range of aspects to help the students education We cover literacy and numeracy We have one session of citizenship each week The students will also attend one assembly each week

Planners Each student upon entry will be given one of our school planners. Students must bring their planner to school every day and have it on the desk in every lesson and tutor time. They are used as a teaching and learning tool in lessons Place to record homework (set and due date) Approximately one hour of homework will be set per day Liaison between home and school (you may wish to write any notes in here) Planners should be signed by all 3 parties each week (student, parent and tutor)

Attendance Attendance in school is crucial part of your child’s education The links between attendance and attainment are undeniable and we encourage students to come to school every day We celebrate attendance regularly within school Please work with us and send your child to school every single day (please do not request holiday during term time as it can not be authorised. Fixed penalty notices are utilised in line with Hampshire policy for attendance and lateness).

Cycling to School Many of our students cycle to school Cycling to school is encouraged but we also encourage students to cycle safely If your child does plan to cycle please send them with a cycle helmet. A cycle helmet is a compulsory item - this is to safeguard our students against potential harm We do sanction children who do not ride with a helmet and you will be informed of this.

Extra Curricular Opportunities At the Hamble School we pride ourselves in our extra curricular provision We encourage each student to attend at least one extra curricular club It’s a great way to meet new people with similar interests to you We offer a range of activities; visit our website for more information
