~ Our Organization ~

Heating,Ventilation and Air Conditioning ~ The Maintenance Section ~ The Seven men in the section cover all forms of work in the basic building trades. Electrical Plumbing Carpentry Masonry Heating,Ventilation and Air Conditioning The 7 men in the maintenance section cover all the basic building trades. Each man specializes in one trade field but may also work in other crafts as needed. For instance, we lost our carpenter, Dave Koehler, for 3 months this summer due to knee surgery. Mike Mehs, who specializes in the Masonry field, filled in admirably for Dave to allow us to complete some critical summer projects. We have a radio base station in the B&G office and each member of the maintenance section carries a portable radio so we can be in contact with them at all times.

~ Electrical ~ We maintain, repair, and install: Hundreds of electrical motors All Electrical distribution panels and switch gear Thousands of electrical circuit breakers and fuses Thousands of switches and receptacles Thousands of lighting fixtures Miles of electrical and data wiring All forms of electrical appliances and tools Pat Gehen is our specialist in the electrical field

~ Plumbing ~ We maintain, repair, and install: Miles of water, waste, heating, air, and gas piping All associated valves and regulators Hundreds of sinks, toilets, urinals, and other fixtures Neal Radder specializes in the Plumbing field. Neal is also the current president of the CSEA Union

~ Carpentry ~ We maintain, repair, and install: Hundreds of Doors, Windows, Partitions, Shelves, Countertops, Ceilings, Cabinets, Lockers, Floors and Roofs Dave Koehler specializes in Carpentry.

~ Masonry ~ We maintain, repair, and install: Brick, Tile, Terrazzo, Plaster, Block, Drywall Exterior and Interior Walls, Floors, Stairs Sidewalks and other Concrete Areas Mike Mehs specializes in the Masonry area. Russ Then specializes in the locksmith area though in reality he is our “Jack of all Trades”.

Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning ~ H.V.A.C. ~ Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning We maintain, repair, and install: District Energy Management System Thermostats, Control Valves and Dampers 27 Heating Boilers (both Steam and hot water) Hundreds of Exhaust Fans and Air Handlers All District Air Conditioning Equipment All Food Service Refrigeration and Equipment We have two employees who specialize in the HVAC field. They are Bob Loughran and Dean Lundquist.

~ New Construction and Remodeling ~ We construct new areas to meet the changing needs of the educational system. We have built: Handicap Accessible Lavatories, Classrooms, Weight and Exercise Rooms, Computer Labs, Home Ec Rooms etc. I am very proud of our maintenance section. Our people are capable of completing any type of construction or maintenance project. In the past several years we have been doing more remodeling and new construction work. This is due to the ever changing needs of the educational system. We should remember also, that our buildings are getting older. Our newest building is 28 years old.

~ The Grounds Section ~ The nine men in this section cover all forms of outdoor maintenance and operations, as well as many other tasks. The Grounds Section consists of 8 men who work out of the basement of West Middle School. Pete Spilsbury is our Grounds Crew Chief. We have 6 Groundsmen: Ken Webb, Rick Geercken, John Rausch, John Robertson, Wayne Schreiner, and Pat Cappara. Dennis Hall is a Laborer in the Section. All the grounds vehicles are radio equipped. They do much more than the traditional outdoor maintenance.

~ Snowplowing ~ The Grounds Section clears all District roads and parking lots of snow and ice. This amounts to 1,151,000 square feet or Over 26 acres of area are plowed!

~ Athletic Fields ~ The Grounds Section maintains all District fields 10 Full and partial football fields, 8 Soccer fields, 6 Lacrosse fields, 4 Baseball diamonds 4 Softball diamonds, 2 Field Hockey fields

~ Food and Materials Transfer ~ The Grounds Section moves large quantities of food, printed material, supplies and equipment all around our district every day

~ Garbage & Trash Collection ~ Twice a day we pick up garbage at each of our buildings and deliver it to the refuse site.

Our Schools are staffed by: ~ Building Staffs ~ Our Schools are staffed by: 10 Head Custodians 3 Sr. Custodians (2 Sr. Highs & E Middle) 25 Custodians 3 Laborers (Highs & Middle Schools) 46 Cleaners 12 buildings to clean & Maintain “WE” maintain 1.2 Million SF

We want to do our job well so that……. The Buildings & Grounds Department fights a daily battle against a myriad of physical, mechanical, logistical, and weather-related problems associated with running a very large school district. Our staff does a very difficult job, and does it very well. We want to do our job well so that……. A teacher’s only concern is teaching……. And a student’s only concern is learning…….
