Let’s learn about these holidays What is Veterans Day? It is an official U.S. holiday observed every year on November 11. The day is to honor people who served in the United States Armed Forces (U.S. military). Anyone who serves in the military is called a veteran once their service is over. We celebrate on November 11th in remembrance of the end of WWI, which ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Who is a veteran? Do you know a veteran? Veterans are people who served in the military (Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, Coast Guard) Do you know a veteran? Maybe it is your father, mother, sister, brother, uncle, grandfather, etc.

Why is it important to honor veterans? Have a class discussion for a few minutes and come up with ideas on why we should honor our veterans. Create a list of your top reasons why honoring our veterans is so important.

Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in Canada, the Unites States, some of the Caribbean islands, and Liberia. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

Take a moment to think about someone you are grateful for. Make a card for the person you are thankful for. It could be your mom, dad, friend, teacher, coach, etc. Write to them and explain why you are grateful for them. Give them this card and watch their faces light up with joy.
