IEEE 802.22 WG Opening Report – March 2007 Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.22-yy/xxxxr0 March 2007 IEEE 802.22 WG Opening Report – March 2007 IEEE P802.22 Wireless RANs Date: 2007-03-12 Authors: Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE 802.22. Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures http://standards.ieee.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair Carl R. Stevenson as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.22 Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at patcom@iee.org. > Carl R. Stevenson, WK3C Wireless LLC John Doe, Some Company

IEEE 802.22 WG Opening Report – March 2007 802.22 Status & Goals WG working to complete 1st Draft for WG Ballot (802.22) “Base” Standard will be basic “single channel” system with frequency agility based on cognitive radio techniques No channel bonding, fancy aggregation schemes, multiple antennas, etc. “Bells and whistles” features to be added through future amendments TG1 working to complete 1st Draft for WG Ballot (802.22.1) This is the “Part 74 beacon” standard to compliment 802.22 and improve protection to Part 74 licensed devices, which are harder to sense than TV and require faster response TG2 studying issues and formulating Draft (802.22.2) This is a Recommended Practice for the Installation and Deployment of IEEE 802.22 Systems, and will contain best practices Carl R.
