Skipping to Save Lives Our school is participating in Jump Rope For Heart! Over the next couple of weeks, you are going to have a lot of fun being active, and learning cool skipping tricks! You are also raising money to help the Heart Foundation fight heart disease in Australia.

Heart Disease Heart disease is when someone has a sick heart. Our hearts are super important as they help keep us alive! Many people have heart disease. Raise your hand if you know someone who has a sick heart. The good news is, by participating in Jump Rope, every single one of you can help!

How can you help? Keep your heart healthy Raise money to help people with sick hearts

1. Keep your heart healthy What are some things you can do to keep your hearts healthy?

Exercise every day! We need at least 1 hour of physical activity every single day. What do you do to make sure you get 1 hour of exercise a day? Skipping is great for our cardiovascular (which means our heart) health which is why our school is doing Jump Rope For Heart.

What are some of your favourite fruits and vegetables? Eat healthy foods! Eating a healthy diet full of a variety of fruits and vegetables every day is very important! What are some of your favourite fruits and vegetables?

2. Raise money to help people with sick hearts The Heart Foundation wants to help people with sick hearts get better. To help the Heart Foundation fix hearts, people donate money to them, and this is where you and your families can help!

How can you raise money? You can help save lives by collecting money for the Heart Foundation. We have a special school page online that your parents can sign you up to, then you can ask friends and family to sponsor you. It’s easy!

Your online page

How does raising money help fix people’s hearts? The Heart Foundation gives the funds you raise to doctors and researchers, so they can look further into heart disease and find ways to make sick hearts better. Since 1959, the Heart Foundation have given almost $600 million towards heart disease research.

You help kids just like Yusuf

Yusuf now Yusuf was born with a heart condition. The video you just watched was from 2016. Late last year, Yusuf had another open heart surgery where they had to replace his aortic valve. Thanks to people like you he is on his way to recovery!

Receive a thank you prize! To say thanks for all your hard work skipping and fundraising, the Heart Foundation will give you a thank you prize! The gift you receive is based on the amount of money you raise Here are this years prizes…

What’s next? You will receive a form about Jump Rope For Heart from your teachers, that looks like this Make sure you take this home to your parents.

Lastly, a quick quiz… Your heart beats 50,000 times a day… If you think this is true, put your hands on your head If you think this is false put your arms across your chest GO!

Your heart actually beats 100,000 times a day!! False! Your heart actually beats 100,000 times a day!!

Now let’s start skipping!! We hope you have fun keeping your heart healthy and helping the hearts of others. A big Thank You from the Jump Rope for Heart team and we look forward to hearing about your skipping progress!
