Introduce yourself as… …A Reader My Example: I’m a retired leisure reader. I unfortunately don’t have the time for it anymore. I’m on to a new reader career now: that of analysis as I work on my PhD

Introduce yourself as… …A Writer My Example: Writing is my natural state of being. I am an aspiring screen writer, novelist, and essayist. It still thrills me to see a blank page waiting for me to write on it.

Introduce yourself as… …A Speaker My Example: I speak easily in all situations, almost to a fault. Much of my social regret is tied to my talking too much or too forcefully about an emotionally-charged topic. I have been working on being a better listener and it is helping me to calm down as a speaker.

Introduce yourself as… …A Student I am a life-long learner. I can never have too much information and I’m not sure I will ever consider myself done with learning. My favorite question is “what’s next?”

Math

House Keeping Syllabus Homework: read the syllabus with your parents and write down at least ONE question or comment you have about the syllabus. We will go over both (the syllabus and your question/comment in class tomorrow) What textbook(s) or practice book(s) do you have? Do you bring these home every day or leave at school? Front Table – Absent work, returned work, new work Pencil sharpener in the back, garbage in the front (place, NOT throw)

Computers Used to scare me(they did!) Was so afraid I was going to break them I still remember our first computer…and the accordion printer Had no idea what my dad meant by “chat room” Mom ripped the keys off the keyboard…and that is how I learned to type Guess what… I DIDN’T BREAK IT!

What are your fears about math class? Question #1 We all fear something about everything Most of these fears are so small we don’t even notice them Other fears are so big they prevent us from doing anything in that area So, first math question is… What are your fears about math class? note: Be serious in your responses; this is my first impression of you; make it a good one.

Let me help You’re going to be wrong some times, maybe even most times I mistype words – A LOT! We’re all still kicking – so raise those hands and go for it! You might not do well on a quiz or exam I have a cracked screen on my computer right now – from a PEN! Haven’t made that mistake again – so learn from yours as well You’re going to get lost I still ask questions, and use Google, and text my brother, and call my mom… I know more today because I asked questions yesterday – so ask questions We’re going to go fast Thank God for YouTube, right? I watch computer processes over and over Some people talk fast and some people learn slow (like me!) – so reuse resources

Question #4 Introduce yourself as a math student. My example answer: I am an out-of-practice math student. I used to be happy in math and got excited when I understood more and more math concepts. I always thought it was neat that I liked English and math because most people are one or the other. I am a slow math student in that it takes me a long time to understand a new math concept, but I always get there eventually. It’s hard for me to remember math concepts if I haven’t used them in a while. All in all I am an enthusiastic math student that is more excitement than fast skill.
