EU DIGITAL AGENDA FOR SLOVENIA FTTN, FTTH and LTE using the same (existing) infrastructure of TS Starting point: Re-use of existing network The individual household addresses and accurate infrastructure data have been taken into account in the analysis. Already existing infrastructure is used for FTTN, FTTH and LTE backhaul.

FTTN / VDSL2 Assumptions / Questions What is the maximum distance to the customers? Does every houshold have access to copper cables? Are there any pairgain systems (or other bottlenecks, e.g. bridget taps, loading coils, …) in the copper network? What is the diameter of the copper pairs? In the part of assuring goals of EDA with FTTN solution that would be more FTTC. Each FTTN location would cover capacities from 32 to 192 subscribers. 4 Would the number of exchanges need to be increased? The number of exchanges could stay the same. We would have to significantly increase the number of FTTN/C locations. 5 Would the number of cabinets need to be increased? Yes. The number of cabinets should be increased significantly 6 How much would the total cost (in euro) of the upgrade be assuming that each existing Cabinet is an average of 1 Kilometre from the exchange? Active equipment: 100 – 300 EUR / customer Backhaul / uplink: EUR / km Together: approx EUR / customer depends on size and reconstruction of copper network (pairgain systems)

VDSL2 with vectoring could extend delivering broadband services over copper networks. Vectoring can almost double speeds at the same distance 1000m

10, ENGAGE Donegal case Alternative Infrastructure Electricity Network The electricity network is shown in Map 4 on page 17. This contains a mix of 110KV and 38KV power distribution lines. However, most premises in rural areas receive electricity via last mile cables erected on poles. Use for bachaul for FTTN and Base stations / FWA 1. Could this last mile electricity network be used to as a High Speed Access network for broadband 2. Describe the technical solution 3. What are the limitations or constraints

11, ENGAGE Donegal case Clean Water Distribution Network The clean water distribution network is also shown in on Map 4 on page 17. Clean water is distributed along village streets and roads in 45 Centimetre pipes 1. Could this clean water network be used to as a means to deliver broadband to street cabinets 2. Is it permitted to use clean water pipes in this way 3. Describe the technical solution 4. What are the limitations or constraints

12, ENGAGE Donegal case Sewage Network All towns (see Table 1 -Towns & Villages in County Donegal ranked by Populations on page 5) contain sewage networks which connect to all premises within the town boundary via pipes of 23 Centimetres in diameter. 5. Could this sewage network be used to as a High Speed Access network for broadband 6. Describe the technical solution 7. What are the limitations or constraints
