In This Session We Will Cover How to search for and access a book and electronic book from Summon Placing a hold on your book Renewing your book (automatic renewal) Placing a hold on your books – a Postal Loan Our electronic book collections What we will cover in this session

Accessing Books & ebooks You can search for books via the Subject Resource page using the search box. This will take you through to Summon http://libguides.staffs.ac.uk/psychology/books This will identify hard copy books we have in the library and also electronic books

How to find a book in the library When you have found your book on the catalogue you will see a number and a specific collection. The number will be on the side of the book followed by the first three letters of the author(s) surname e.g. 150/MAR The CORE collection is located towards the front of the library on the ground & 1st floor. The MAIN collection is located towards the back of the library on the ground floor.

Placing a hold on your books Place a hold on your books via the Library Catalogue http://libcat.staffs.ac.uk/cgi-bin/koha/opac-user.pl To place a hold on the book via Summon you can select the book link in Summon. This will take you through to the catalogue Select place hold, log into your account and follow the instructions

Placing a hold on your books A Postal Loan If you are a Distance Learning Student living in the UK we provide a postal loan service. When placing a hold on a book log into your account. Make sure when you place a hold you open up the options and in the box type “Off Campus User”. Select Place Hold For more information visit the Off Campus User page

Renewing your books Your books will automatically renew every two weeks if they are not requested by other students You could have book out for up to 1 year before you have to bring it back! However! If the book is popular and other students request it. You will get an eMail reminder to your student eMail inbox telling you to bring the book back. Make sure you bring it back otherwise you will be charged £1 a day (excluding weekends)

Search for an ebook Navigate to http://libguides.staffs.ac.uk/psychology/books and use the search box to search for a book Select Full Text Online. This will show you a list of eBooks

Accessing an ebook To access an eBook select the Full Text Online link You will need to log into the eResource using your username & password

Accessing an ebook You then have the option of reading the eBook online or downloading it in PDF format We have a guide highlighting useful eBook tools
