Big Game Management- Purpose of BGSS? Herd Management Plans License Recommendations BGSS Establishes a 5-year big game hunting framework: What types of hunting opportunities will be available. When opportunities will be available. Where opportunities will be available. How the opportunities will be divided amongst methods of take. Gather internal and external input to evaluate current season structure and develop policy recommendations for the next 5 years.

Why 5 years? Provide consistency and predictability. Evaluation: Achievement of management objectives Hunter satisfaction and participation Revenue Law enforcement and regulation complexity

History First initiated in the 1970s First twenty years- focused mainly on length and timing of seasons. 2000-2009- scope expanded to include license allocation, preference points, youth opportunity, and OHV use. 2010-2014- refocused on season length and timing. Hybrid draw added. 2015-2019- Intensive public outreach. Outcomes included new timing of the antelope muzzleloader season, a concurrent rifle bear season, and expanded youth opportunities.

Proposed Timeline Initiate BGSS discussion with PWC. Tasks May 2018 August 2018 Sept 2018 January 2019 Feb 2019 March 2019 June 2019 July 2019 Initiate BGSS discussion with PWC.   Finalize topic list with PWC. Start media outreach. Update Sportsmen’s Roundtable. Hold public meetings, telephone town hall, and public online event. Harvest survey data collected. Share feedback from public meetings with PWC and Sportsmen’s Roundtable members. Present draft to PWC. Present final proposal of 2020-2024 BGSS to PWC for approval. Proposed Timeline
