Key Messages in English for the SCITT year

What can you remember about English in Primary school?

1. Develop subject knowledge Spoken language Reading Decoding (word reading) Understanding Writing Composition Text structure Grammar and punctuation Vocabulary and spelling How these fit together

The English audit Complete the English audit over the summer Don’t research the answers, just write down what you know or have a guess. Don’t be afraid to leave a blank if you haven’t a clue! You must bring you completed audit to ‘English Day 1’

Why English is great! It’s messy Often there isn’t a right or a wrong The spelling system is all over the place No-one can quite agree on the grammar rules Who doesn’t love a story? It will give you WOW moments – often unexpected Communication is the most important skill a child can have Reading opens up the world Writing and speaking can be superpowers It enriches the whole child
